ACL Brisbane Black Ops Wrap Up

in Call of Duty - Black Ops

With ACL Brisbane bringing the end to what's been a roller coaster year for the Call of Duty community, once again the powerhouse that is Frenetic Array have taken out the national championship.
This re-vamped team consisting of © Buzzin, StenGunz, Geemon & Renzy is a completely different line-up to the 2010 season featuring arguably the best 4v4 players from around the country today. Motivated by Frenetic Arrays '10 nationals win, the boys came to this event ready to play and they showed it failing to drop a series through the event!
After breezing through the early stages of pool play, Fray's first real challenge appeared in the name of Cruelty Incarnate. This match up was to be a clash of the titans drawing other teams away from their matches just to watch the mayhem going down. Although Fray eventually won 3-2 in the best of five, they only just managed to squeeze through Crueltys grip. It was later to be described as one of the best series played throughout the event if not the best!
With pool play over the seedings for the double elimination were as follows:
1. Frenetic Array
2. MindFreak
3. Cruelty Incarnate
4. Taunted
5. Carrion
6. Qlimax
7. Fluffy Bunny Brigade
8. FreQuency
9. Chicken 'n' Chips
10. SuperNatural
As expected, Frenetic Array, MindFreak & Cruelty Incarnate all won their first matches in Winners Bracket Round 2 of the double elimination bracket moving all three on to Winners Bracket Round 3 to face off against one another for a place in the semifinal. The first major upset came in WR2 in the form of Carrion beating one of the fan favourites and recent winners of ACL Online Round 3, Taunted 3-1.
With Taunted in the Losers Bracket, Carrion would go on to face Frenetic Array for their shot at the semi finals.
Coming off their win against Taunted in WR2, Carrion gave it their all but unfortunately fell short losing to Frenetic Array in a straight set 3-0. On the other side of the stage we had MindFreak playing off against Cruelty Incarnate. What was expected to be a white wash in MindFreaks favour ended up being the opposite with Cruelty managing to knock MF into the Losers Bracket.
With their recent success against MindFreak, Cruelty Incarnate went into their semifinal match against Frenetic Array full of energy knowing they could take out the heavy favourites due to the fact their pool play matches were extremely close. Frenetic Array coming in fresh from their win against Carrion in WR3 were well prepared though, dispatching of Cruelty in a 3-2 manner (yet again!) and securing their place in the grand final whilst sending Cruelty plummeting into the Losers Bracket.
Meanwhile in the Losers Bracket, after being knocked out by Cruelty Incarnate, MindFreak were slowly but surely clawing their way back into the game knocking out both Taunted and Qlimax before getting their well deserved re-match against Cruelty Incarnate. The ensuing matches lasted what seemed like hours with the now best of eleven series (due to the continuation rule) ending up with plenty of ties and back and forth matches. With both teams clearly starting to struggling with fatigue, it was Cruelty who managed to brave the odds and come out on top winning 6-3 and finally securing their place in the grand final along side rivals Frenetic Array.
The grand final, uncharacteristically, took place after the Halo Reach 4v4 grand final due to time restraints and one hell of a series between MindFreak and Cruelty. Regardless of the late finish, almost all the CoD teams that competed throughout the event stayed to watch the grand final to come between Cruelty Incarnate and Frenetic Array.
Frenetic Array began the grand final and continuation of the previous series with a 3-2 lead over Cruelty Incarnate. Cruelty came out of the gates strong in game 6 of the continuation series taking a convincing win on S&D Summit 4-1. Game 7 was CTF Firing Range and went back and forth between both teams numerous times before ending in a tie. After a loss and a close call, Fray knuckled down and started to control the pace of the game which netted them game 8 on Villa DOM. Keeping up the pressure with the prize money and title in reach, Fray took game 9, S&D Havana, 5-3 making the series score 5-3 in their favour. Needing only one win before they could be crowned the national champs, Fray kicked into overdrive shutting out Ci in the decisive game 10 on Summit CTF. In the end after 10/11 games played in the series, the scores were as follows 6-3-1 (Win-Loss-Tie) to Fray and 3-6-1 for Cruelty who put up one hell of a fight against the unstoppable force that has become, Frenetic Array.
Congratulations once again to Frenetic Array for back to back National Championships, and to their new line-up on it's first championship. From everyone at ACL, we hoped you enjoyed our coverage of Call of Duty: Black Ops throughout the weekend and we hope to see each and every one of you back for the 2012 season which is set to be the biggest year yet!
