ACL online events have always been a valuable part of the ACL Pro Circuit and provide the perfect balance between a fun weekend of gaming and a competitive tournament environment for the best players in ACL. Online competitions serve the purpose of providing players with valuable points to seed them in future LAN and online tournaments, accommodate players and teams that are unable to attend LANs, and constantly test who is the best team in Australia and New Zealand.
ACL Reach 4v4 Online Round 2 has just come and gone and featured 26 of the best teams in Australia and New Zealand battling for 1st place over July 10th-12th. As per regular tournament segregation Open Pool Play kicked off on the Friday Night of July 10th and featured 18 teams fighting it out for valuable seeding ranks and the opportunity to progress the Open Double Elimination tournament the next day.

Friday
The competition was spread out amongst 4 pools and each pool provided some unexpected and impressive results. In pool A we had For The Lolz, a last minute team consisting of some experienced and skilled ACL veterans, take out their pool with an impressive 8-1 win loss ratio, narrowly beating team High Priority in their series for the pool win 2-1. In pool B we saw Team VX consisting of some talented New Zealand players clean sweep their pool 9-0, displaying some impressive results and showings of team work. Pool C was perhaps the most interesting pool in Open Pool Play as many would of guessed team Distinctive to take it out, however when Distinctive met up against a new team with some less known players called iNFamous we saw a surprising result with the series going 2-1 in iNFamous’s favour. Both teams went through Pool C without dropping a game, expect against each other, which gave iNFamous the edge over Distinctive and awarded them the number 1 seed from Pool C. Last but not least Pool D saw another skilled New Zealand team in 4Gone Conclusion take out their pool without dropping a game, giving them a 100% win/loss ratio and the pool win. With open pool play all said and done it provided the top 16 best teams with seeding ranks for the next day open double elimination bracket, those seeding ranks are listed below:

1.) VX
2.) 4Gone Conclusion
3.) iNFamous
4.) for the lolz
5.) Distinctive
6.) High Priority
7.) TBA 1
8.) Str8 Garbage
9.) Against All Odds
10.) Nameless
11.) Voltage
12.) Vital
13.) IDoliZe
14.) Desolation

Saturday
Next up was the competition on Saturday, which meant the Open Double Elimination tournament and Pro Pool Play. In the Open Double Elimination we saw the above seeded teams facing off against each other in a standard double elimination format: 1v16, 2v15, 3v14, 4v13, 5v12, 6v11, 7v10, 8v9. In winners bracket round 1 the results were fairly typical with all games going in favour of the higher seed, except in the match up between AaO (9) vs Voltage (8) where AaO took the win. From there half the talent dropped down to begin their fight through the losers bracket while the winning teams progressed through the winners bracket. VX, For The Lolz, 4G and iNFamous were all looking strong taking out their Winners Bracket Round 2 matches 3-0, which set up for two very exciting winners bracket semi finals matches in VX vs Distinctive and 4G vs iNFamous. In the 4G vs iNFamous matchup iNFamous managed to give 4G their first series loss of the tournament taking out the series 3-1, while the Distinctive vs VX matchup was even closer going to a game 5 finale were VX managed to edge out the series 3-2. This set up the winners bracket finals of the open double elimination tournament where VX displayed their dominant play style taking down iNFamous 3-0. Once all the losers bracket carnage was fought iNFamous proved their performance to be no fluke and managed to earn their spot back in the Finals facing off against VX again, though luckily for iNFamous some VX members had to jump offline early and therefore iNFamous were awarded the open double elimination bracket win. Per the tournament structure the Top 8 teams from the open double elimination tournament would progress to the pro double elimination tournament on the next day, while it was the end of the road for rest of the competition. The final results from the open double elimination tournament displayed below:

1.) Infamous
2.) VX
3.) 4G
4.) Distinctive
5.) High Priority
6.) For The Lolz
7.) AaO
8.) TBA 1

9.) Vital
10.) Nameless
11.) Desolation
12.) Cactus down
13.) MK.v's
14.) Voltage
15.) Str8 Garbage
16.) IDoLiZe

While all the open double bracket elimination action was being played pro pool play was also going down where the Top 8 ranked teams going into ACL Reach 4v4 Online Round all played off against each other to determine seeding ranks for the pro double elimination series on Sunday. Two of the strongest teams in pro pool play, New Era and After Effect, were both going undefeated in their matchups until they faced up against each other in Round 4. Many were picking New Era to take out pool play and even the whole tournament after their strong results in ACL Reach 4v4 Online Round 1 and ACL Sydney, however most people were shocked to see After Effect topple New Era 3-0.

3.) Initial Concept
4.) Category 4
5.) Team Sidewinder

Sunday
Sunday marked the final day of competition in the pro double elimination tournament. All the pro ranked teams were to match up against all the open teams who progressed from the open double elimination for an epic bracket boasting the best teams in ACL. As the bracket progressed we quickly saw teams such as After Effect, Category 4, VX and Initial Concept doing well in their early rounds. While strong teams such as Fury, New Era and 4G dropped down to the losers bracket early on and would have to fight their way back to the top. In the winners bracket semi finals we saw After Effect 3-1 Category 4 and VX 3-0 Initial concept which set up our winners bracket finals of the pro double elimination tournament between VX and After Effect. VX managed to secure their spot in the grand finals and confirm a top 2 placing by beating After Effect in this match up 3-1.

Deano from After Effect in Game 1 of the Winners Bracket Finals against VX

Meanwhile in the losers bracket we saw open bracket champions iNFamous, Fury, New Era and 4G all secure a top 8 finish by making it to losers bracket round 3. From their Fury progressed to play Initial Concept in perhaps one of the most highly anticipated and epic series in the tournament, with Initial Concept being 2-0 up in the series Fury pulled off an incredible comeback to win the series 3-2.

Monk from Fury in Game 5 against Initial Concept

In the losers bracket finals we saw 4G progress all the way through the competition to meet up against After Effect in the losers bracket finals. The winner of this match would meet up against VX in the finals, and with that in mind After Effect came out strong and managed to take down 4G 3-1.

Hopey from After Effect making quick work of 4G in this sanctuary bomb game in the losers bracket finals

Just like that it was all down to two teams. As VX and After Effect had already met up and with VX being victorious on that occasion they had a 3-1 advantage in a best of 11 continuation series. That did not deter After Effect however, as they quickly equalised the series 4-4 after 4 games into the grand finals. From there the series score went 5-5 which meant it all came down to the very final game in game 11. Pressure and nerves must have been high in this final game and communication and callouts would have surely been frantic. However After Effect had come back too far, being down 3-1 in the continuation series, and managed to take it the whole way winning the final game and becoming the ACL Reach 4v4 Online Round 2 champions.

Hopey playing in the Grand Finals against VX where they managed to pull off an almost impossible upset winning 6-5

The final results for ACL Reach 4v4 Online Round 2 were:

2.) VX
3.) 4G
4.) Fury
5.) Category 4
6.) Initial Concept
7.) New Era
8.) iNFamous

9.) Distinctive
10.) TBA 1
11.) Game On
12.) Sidewinder
13.) AaO
14.) For The Lolz
15.) Quality Gaming
16.) High Priority

17.) Vital
18.) Nameless
19.) Desolation
20.) Cactus down
21.) MK.v's
22.) Voltage
