One thing that holds me back from streaming is the upload speed you get. I go to speedtest.net to find out that it is slow as hell but why?

The current technology in Australia for residences isn't at a point where it is possible to have 30mb upload speeds. Hence the fibre optic development through NBN.

If you want good upload speed you'd need to check your phone lines and then manage to convince Telstra that your home is actually a business and get them to put in optics.

Internet speed is either symmetrical or a symmetrical.

Most residential connections are the latter with most of the line being devoted to downloading compared to uploading as it isn't as important.

A business connection will generally be symmetrical as they require to upload information servers or use VPNs.

So your upload is not what you want pretty much because you're on a residential connection in combination with you having a slow connection all together.

Yeah, basically upload speeds just aren't important to residential customers so they don't care. Maybe 1% of all ISP customers actually require to upload things. As it gets easier to share media however, such as webcam chat and YouTube uploads people are going to start expecting higher upload speeds.

I think it depends the exchange, the ISP and whether its home or business, but I'm sure iinet do it, aswell as line bonding. (2 connections on one line, 40mb down 2mb if ur really lucky)

As far as I know line bonding is rare, plus its basically paying for 2 times your net and phone every month.

Pretty much Australia not realising the potential that the internet had in the late 90s early 00s.

TAFE FTW :) <3
