Blizzard Entertainment announce the
Starcraft II World Championship Series: Australian National Qualifiers

The Australian Cyber League is named primary event partner

Blizzard has announced this year's massive contribution to you, the players, to bring you one of the biggest eSports competitions ever held in both Australia and around the globe. ACL is proud to confirm that we will be working closely with Blizzard ANZ to bring you most of the qualifier events as well as the live National and Oceanic Final event later in the year where the best Starcraft 2 Player will be decided.

Original Blizzard Release can be read here on their SEA blog.

The Starcraft II World Championship Series consists of tournaments held in nearly every part of the world, bringing players from all over the globe together to compete for pride, glory and prizes.

Starting with National Qualifiers, players will battle it out for a chance to prove they have what it takes to be the best in the country, and qualify for the Oceanic Finals in their part of the world. Then, the winners of the Oceanic Finals will earn a place to fight in the Starcraft World Championship Series, where they’ll compete for not only prizes, but the title of World Champion.

More details about this tournament, along with prize details, will be released in the very near future. In the meantime, the qualifiers are starting very soon, so why not be a part of the action? Here’s a list ACL’s Australian Qualifiers.

This should be awesome!!

I hope they change the amount of invites per region though. For instance there will be a lot of really good Koreans missing out, who would easily be better than some of the SEA players who might make it.
But in saying that, I know the SEA players will be practicing their butts off for this tournament.

wtf?

That would be grossly unfair on the smaller regions.

It would be unfair, but it would be stupid to run a tournament that gives the winner the title of "Best player in the world" and not have the best players competing due to there not being enough spots in the finals.

Everyone is well aware of which regions have the larger and stronger player base.

Unfair? There's 40 players in Code S in the GSL alone who would dump on 99.9% of players in all other countries.
You don't think it's stupid if they miss out to lesser players around the globe? It's not a showcase, they're competing to be crowned world champion.

Look at GomTV's last tweet: "NaNiWa is the only non-Korean contender in this season's Code S, will he be able to advance?"

OT: Awesome news.

So say a Korean wins it (Which is likely) that Korean who fought against all the others to qualify, THEN beat the rest of the world + the other Koreans that qualified can't say he is the best player in the world?

Of course he can say that he is the "Best in the World", because that is the title they are fighting for.

But you are missing the point i made in my last post. I said that there will be players that don't qualify, that are much, much better than players that will. Which is why I am hoping the distribute the places according to some measure meant of Player base/skill.

Wrong, agree with Parker 100%. If its displaying the best playrs in the world then all players should be able to have a chance to compete.
Also the skill gap between foreigners and Koreans has closed extremly ( Disregarding top 3-5 koreans).

Awsome news for ACL, such a good decision switching to SC :D

Silly Ripped, I agree with parker, read my post again, I'm saying that it's stupid that a lot of amazing korean players will not qualify if they limit it to the same amount of positions in each region, making players qualify who aren't as good as them.
