Just thought I'd ask people there opinions on their experience of ACL Melb.

Personally my experience for a first LAN even with the small attendance was great. Was nice meeting all of you guys especially the staff. You guys do a great job and I'm sure everybody appreciates it. Also all of the players I met made it all the more better. Was nice putting a face to some familiar voices.

I thought I would would also ask this question since Inmaniac asked it when he was commentating. Personally I was a bit dissapointed with the Halo 3 numbers. I expected more than just 8 teams from a community that claims it wants to play Halo 3 more than anything because they dislike Reach. And while you might say there was only 7 teams for Reach most of the teams that played Halo 3 were Reach teams who played because it was free for them to do so and it was a lot fun.

Anyway that's my impression of the LAN. I thoroughly enjoyed and can't wait for the next one :)

Also big shout out to Damo, Alex, and Matt for letting me crash at there place Monday night. Sunday and Monday nights were just F**king awesome!!

was nice meeting you and your team man
ACL: "Jumping back to Melbourne for a second, did you get much time to look around at some of the other teams competing? Were there any people who you mightn't have seen much of before that impressed you?"

Voltage: "I didn't really get to watch many people play, but I was very impressed with Twu Rock when I was watching him playing No Remorse on the main stage, he really surprised me with his skill."

It was a good weekend organised pretty well, Halo main stage was a bit weird but i guess that's because of the attendance. It was good meeting most of the reach players and will most likely attend the next event. :D

There was no sign of it or results anywhere on the website. At all. No idea what happened with staffing for that.

Halo 3 sucks lets never play it again.
Other than that it was a really enjoyable event, with expected close competition.

Great event. It was run very smoothly as per usual.
But please don't do H3 again.
Due to the fact that if you lose in halo reach double elim twice, then thats it.
You just spent all your time and money to basically play 2 series.

Yeah I think playing halo 3 is a bit unfair to the people that have practiced for months on reach

Yea that was my fault, I was on roster for articles but hurt myself at work on Friday night so I couldn't make the trip down.

Covenant.

H3 at finals is a must. Even if there is no prize money. It must happen!

Agree with Seeker.

No teams are playing Reach anymore meaning there's no real point in running it anymore. Prize money would be almost non-existent and chances are it would end up losing money. H3 would certainly pull more numbers than Reach, on top of which it's a more spectator friendly game.

The real question would be who would turn up? There were a lot of big names missing in Melbourne.

Most of the teams who played Halo 3 only played it because they were there for Reach. There would probably only be one more event for Reach with Halo 4 coming out later this yeah anyway. I was actually really disappointed with H3 numbers. I expected with all these people arguing for a return of Halo 3 because of the lack on interest in Reach that they might get good numbers for it.

If it is only halo 3 they should announce it sooner saves the reach players from making teams for the next event, but then again it was half of the reach teams who played halo 3..

This thread gave everyone a clear understanding about how Halo 3 would be run at ACL Melbourne and gave people the opportunity to vote/give their opinions on the situation.
Devilz, Sosd, Macca - you all voted saying you wanted Halo 3 at the event.

Regardless, you will probably never see Halo 3 played competitively at an ACL event again.

There were three teams that played H3 only. How many played Reach only?

Disappointed? H3 had more teams than Reach did it not?

You aren't going to get people travelling interstate to play a game for one day with $0 prizemoney. Not sure how many non-Victorians are going to turn up considering those circumstances.

In all honesty if I was ACL I'd drop Halo and GoW3 completely, but that is just my opinion.

Maybe it was because you got free entry if you paid for reach 4v4

Honestly I thought that playing H3 on the Saturday was a better idea than having pool play on the first day and sitting around half of Sunday. H3 should only be an option if there is extremely low amount of teams. That would prevent the huge gaps between games.

I don't even know what a few of you guys are talking about with H3 'sucking'.

In all honesty, I loved the event. The venue was great, music playing constantly in the background (made it less "awkward" i guess?), extremely well set up. You're even providing ethernet cables which is a big step forward! For some reason this community seems to keep falling worse and worse every event I can manage to get myself to. (On a plus side it's growing hugely on the PC side of things) But it's (console gaming) dying out very quickly. I was expecting VoxE, iM, at least 2 of the members of BOSS to be there at this event. Where did they go?

I believe if there wasn't a new halo coming out this year, you (ACL) could very easily bring back competitive Halo 3 and start being successful in the console sides of things. I may be the only one thinking this, but, I feel as though 3 teams all from Victoria alone was a pretty decent effort for an averagely promoted, no prize money event. If we were to get 3 teams (12 people) from each state in australia (not counting tazzie cause i don't really think we've had many players from down there), that's already 18 teams! I know there's probably none from Western AUS, but there's always been more players from the VIC / NSW / QLD areas. I know for a fact that there's at least 2 more teams that couldn't make it to this event unfortunately who are from VIC also.

A few of you keep saying that 'the only reason people played H3 in melbourne was because it was free', I can almost guarantee that there would be at least 2 - 3 teams that genuinely wanted to play it, not just cause it's free.

Agree with the first part of your post but to bring H3 back now (I know it is only a hypothetical situation) would never work. Melbourne always had the biggest H3 community and we still only got three teams that came mainly for H3.
