Help
no offense in title.
A few weeks back my internet speeds were decent, 10mb download and .80 up but out of nowhere it just shat up the wall and now I'm getting 230kbps download on average with it dropping to as low as 130kbps (and we aren't capped so don't think that's the reason) however upload is staying the same. It's been doing this for maybe 3 weeks now after TPG got us to change some settings sh**. We called them a few nights back and they're calling it static in the line but I call horse sh** tbh. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening or should I just swap to cable (considering Telstra put like 4 of them in my house for some reason).

I had a similar problem - My net was fine for years getting about 6down 0.3 up then suddenly my download would drop as low as .1down. Done all the test imaginable with my ISP with no result so the problem was forwarded to Telstra. They blamed it on user demand. As im fairly far from our local exchange (some 5k's) they concluded i was on the wrong end of an overloaded copper network. Should mention this usually occurred around peak times. However I can re-call being on in the early morning and the download was still woeful.
Not to say that this is what your problem is, though it would be interesting to know how far you are from your exchange...?

Took the words straight out of my mouth. Were roughly 3-5km away from the exchange. How did you fix it.

Same thing happened to me about a month before Melbourne Lan. I'm on TPG as well. It fixed it self after a while.

I honestly believe that Telstra upgraded the local exchange. I recall seeing some working be done there, then coincidence or not a few weeks later my speeds improved. I had the problem for about 2 yrs... Pretty much why i stopped playing xbl until the last few months.. To fix, heh. Move somewhere that has Fibre...
Honestly though, maybe try a different ISP if that's practical. If you know people locally that don't have the problem see what ISP they're using.
