Tezza chats with recent second place finishers at ACL Sydney, Fray LgNds.
Now we have Riddick joining us, the leader of Frenetic Array. Riddick I’m not overly sure how much you follow your CoD guys, just wanted your 2c on how you think they are going.
Riddick: Well I think they have been doing great. Their results have been a mixed sort between their online and their LAN presence. They've had to focus on their strengths lately and focus on what they enjoy playing as they were spreading themselves too thin.
What do you think the chances of Fray bringing home 2/2 ACL Championships? With both of Fray's teams (Halo and CoD) going in as the number one seeds.
Riddick: Yes I think they could go 2/2.
Firstly, welcome guys. Lets jump right in. I’m noticing that there is no Kustom and now Guardian, what has happened since ACL Sydney?
Donkey: Due to Kustoms work arrangements changing, he is unable to play with the core four enough to do preparation and strats necessary. So it was necessary for us to find a replacement. As Guardian has been a sub for our team for the past two CG seasons and generally knows our strats we thought it a fairly easy replacement for Kustom. Guardian also brings some new elements to the team that will be an advantage to us. Being a lesser known player and playing a different role to kustom being the greatest of these advantages. But he is also a geek and plays alot of 4v4 customs too which will add too.
Saint: It's a shame to have to let Kustom go because he has been with us for the last 2 years and has been a great asset to our team. (Pretty much carried us in WAW
OK so how long have you guys been playing for, and when did this team form?
Donkey: I have been playing games since I can remember but I first got an Xbox 4 years ago and my first game was CoD3. Played a lot offline, until I realised that if I put the ethernet in the back of the box I could connect it to XBL. I played FFA on CoD3 and got really high in the world rankings. I then was noticed by a small Aussie cLAN called Hunters & Collectors, who I will admit were horrible. But there were a few good players Billabong, Pakeio that I took with me when king asked me to join KillArmy Elite and control of the Australian AXB ladders and moved to GB (Gamebattles). After time and practice we made it to no.2 in the world beating saints team on the US ladder (lols) but picked him up in our Australian team. This is when Saint and I started playing together and we have lost some pretty beast players over the years but have replaced them as necessary. We picked Kustom up towards the end of CoD4 and cheese midmay through S1 MW2.
Saint: Team has changed a lot over the years because peoples lives have interfered with playing Xbox (G33Ks). But we have always managed to find some great players/friends to fill the holes and i personally think our team atm has never been stronger. Me and Donkey have played together for years while Cheese and Guardian are new elements yet we get along with them really well.
Guardian: I started playing COD4 on Xbox two years ago and joined a team with a mate call AxG on Aussiexbox, until the end on 2008 when I found Cybergamer. I joined the CG ladder for COD5 WaW with a bunch of mates and got hated on for talking so much shit but I worked my way back up and was the leader of the winning CGi team for COD5 WaW. But after COD5 most of the players were already in other teams leading into MW2.
Cheese: Yeah, well I started playing competitive in a team called Catastrophic Cantelope Krew, was leading the team with a friend from school (Panda), played for fun and eventually he stopped playing for a while and the team fell apart, during that time I played a team called Veterans Of War in which I got good results and was approached by razmac to join. This takes place around early cod5 days, we played out the whole of the second season narrowly making pro finals. We were getting sick of the game but put out heads down and tried the best we could, beating Team Kritically Accliamed (TKA*) 13-11 on Cliffside, the favorites to win the comp and go on to verse Frenetic Array: Legends in the final in which we went on to beat fray and take out the season. This team was called aspiRe, which i played in for close to a year and a half before it came to an end. Following that I joined Uprising in its late stages but with too many inactive members the team couldn't hold and came to an end... I looked at my options and decided to join Legends around the time of Mid Season 1 in Modern Warfare 2.
To the 3 of you who attended ACL Sydney and ACL Melbourne, with your 2nd place finish eventually losing to Malice how do you think the event went and what were your thoughts on it compared to ACL Melbourne?
Donkey: Completely different level of competition from Sydney to Melbourne. Had to make sure we played as a team and commit a lot more time to our efforts, and drink less beer on the night before. There were some complications on our road to Sydney with Saint missing his train meaning Cheese was left alone on the train in between old people so Saint ended up catching a pLANe.
Saint: Melbourne was a bit of a farce for CoD with next to no teams turning up and the whole MW 2 LAN thing being unknown waters and a bit of trial and error occured on the day. Sydney on the other hand saw some top CG teams turn up. By this time the whole MW 2 LAN problems had been resolved and the ruleset/maps perfected.

The MW2 set up at ACL Sydney
Yes speaking of interest of teams. Both MLC and KAE have expressed their interest, they of course came 1st and 3rd respectivly in Sydney. What were your thoughts on these teams?
Cheese: Well we have versed Malice many times, usually haven't been right up there with them but as the results go on the scores have been very close between us, they have seemed to have a habit of quite frequently beating us in the last moments of the game, realising this we have gone over our gameplay and patched things up. Both the teams are really good opposition, but I think we might have the edge at Brisbane after reassessing the way we play. As for KAE, they have a fair bit of work to do to get up to the same level of Malice, iNS, Evil and ourselves. But if they put the same commitment they to can bridge this gap and take maps off us.
Guardian have you ever actually played on LAN before?
Guardian: Not CoD only Halo 2 with a few mates.
Donkey: Guardian Viva Pinata LAN pro!
Now with both online rounds you guys have placed 3rd and 4th respectively, on LAN your placings are 1st and 2nd respectivly. Do you guys prefer LAN or do you think the harder teams are in the online rounds and are to lame to go to LANs?
Saint: I definitely think LAN is much better due to the connection not being a factor.
Donkey: The better teams are definitely online because teams are spread over states. No lag is amazing, shots stick. It separates the pretenders from the decent players. LAN is where it’s at!
Cheese: After playing on LAN you realise how much of online call of duty can come down to who has the best connection, so many times online do your bullets not tag and go straight through people, it can even determine a match...
So I'm presuming you’re predicting yourself to take out ACL Brisbane finals, who do you think will be your biggest challenge?
Donkey: It will definitely be malice, maybe iNS and Evil if they get teams to Brisbane.
Guardian: No one, we got this!
Saint: MLC of course and Evil/Fear if they get a team together. Other then that it really depends on what team attend KAE will be attending and they should put a good fight. Other tehn that it's to early to say, with teams lineups up in the air due to the location of team mates.
Any shout outs?
Guardian: Kustom. Nuff said.
Donkey: Riddick, Kustom, Billabong (if he isn't dead), Nick (Vanzo) for putting all his hard work into ACL, Samsung, Madman, Audion and customFACTOR.
Saint: Vanz for everything he has done to get this up and running. Riddick for his un-wavering support, Tezza for stepping up top take the MW 2 admin role, and Cybergamer for their amazing ladders. Donkey got the rest.
