ACL Perth has been and gone, and what a big day of gaming it was! With it being the first in the state the community got behind it to put on great show of gaming in Perth.

The day kicked off early as the Perth community flooded into the Maltese Hall, to get setting up for a packed day of gaming. As teams got settled down the competition began with pool play and the powerhouse teams got off to a great start. The hype between Anti-Chit or Apex meant one of those teams were expected to win, but a more interesting battle heated up to see who would place third, forth and fifth.

With Anti-Chit and Apex not dropping a match untill they faced off in the pool play round 8, they stepped it up and what a series it was. The first match went to Anti-Chit 50-49 on Heretic TS, Apex coming back from 47-40 in the final minutes. The second match was a draw with both teams scoring 1 flag each on Pit Flag. The third and final match in the pool play series was Narrows TS with Apex taking it out 50-46. With both teams splitting overall match wins for the first place seed in the double elimination, the two teams went into a tie-breaker match. Replaying Pit Flag, this was another hotly contested match with Apex winning and wrapping up the pool play 3-1, to take the first seed in the double elimination.

Perth LAN set-up in the Maltese Hall.

From the pool play, we had a few tightly contested series and tie-breaker matches throughout, and the seeds for the double elimination stood as follows:

  • Apex
  • Anti-Chit
  • inHD
  • Stress Factor
  • Insight
  • Death Row
  • Artificial
  • Bench Warmers
  • Potato Titans

Going into the double elimination with Apex on top, we saw Anti-Chit, inHD, Apex and Insight having first round winner bracket wins. Then with Anti-Chit playing inHD once again, we knew who was the better team from before in the pool play, with Anti-Chit doing the same by taking the series out once again. The over match was Apex and Insight, where we saw what it took to become a top team with Apex winning convincingly over Insight.

Moving into the business end we saw Apex take Anti-Chit out of the winners bracket. On the loser's bracket we saw Death Row taking out Insight in the final match of the series 50-49 to advance to play inHD, winners of the series against Stress Factor. In the finals we saw Apex and Anti-Chit play off for number one position and Death Row against inHD for third and forth place.

First Place winners, Team Apex: bRadley, Little Chittizle, S3NTRY and Chitshow.

In the final we saw the two top teams play off for the title - the matches were long with the series score not representing how close every game was. In the end we saw Apex take control by winning the series and tournament 6-1 games in the series (continued from the Winners Bracket Finals). The match up between these two teams was huge with most of the players stopping during some of their pool play rounds to watch these two go head-to-head.

Second Place takers, Anti-Chit: Hax, Monk, Stevo and Braver.

The placings for third and forth came down to the final game, with both teams playing an even series. The final gametype was Onslaught Flag. The first few minutes was anyone's game with both teams not holding their ground well. The first flag was placed in by inHD and they didnt look back, fighting hard to the end. We saw much talent played on from both teams with inHD taking out third place, 5-3 on Onslaught Flag. What a match and series !

Third Place, inHD: Rolyat, Blink, Kerr eeee and Clinkz.

A big shout out the boys from WaxLAN - Nema and Darth by coming down and helping me out BIG time. Helping set-up with using all of the WaxLAN network gear. Nema, for backing me up from the start and helped us find a new hall soon. Darth, coming down and help set-up all the gear and made sure everything was running smoothly throughout the day. And the rest of the WaxLAN staff for helping with the LAN.

Fourth Place, Death Row: FourPlay, JELLY, KeRRz and Skitz.

Also the thankyous continue to ACL, what a community. Like to say thanks to Vanz for letting this go ahead and putting so much faith in me, all props go to him. Hooters, for the last minute bracket changes and keeping contact with me throughout the event. And all the other staff i have spoken to about the LAN, I thank you.

Fifth Place, Insight: Maverick, Heners, Revail and Overuled.

And thank you to the Perth community for coming down and making a big event for such a small state, hope to see all you boys and girls soon.

A big thanks to Heners (and WaxLAN) for many reasons:

a) this write-up - great job, but boy do I need to speak to you about apostrophes :P (edited and fixed)
B) running a successful event with WaxLAN. Congratulations to those guys for helping Heners where it was most needed (equipment & hall hire)

and most importantly:

c) Stepping up for WA when you were needed. I've been saying for a while that ACL will support someone in Perth to have their own LAN, it just took someone with guts and determination to make it happen. I'm sure everyone in Perth agrees you did a terrific job!

Good stuff. I will go to Brislan, but I don't think I'll be buying airfares anytime soon.
