Duke Nukem is still one of my favourite video game characters, but the newest game has been in development for over 10 years. But now, Gearbox (creators of Borderlands) are taking over development.

Quote

The rumours would appear to be true. Borderlands dev Gearbox IS working on Duke Nukem Forever - and the reborn game is set to be unveiled at Seattle event PAX today.

US dev sources have indicated to CVG that the game will get a "grand demo" at the show - and will be built upon what 3D Realms has already created, rather than a completely fresh project. We're hopeful it will be playable.

Shocked? Of course you're not. It's hardly as if this is the best kept secret in games.

Publisher 2K last night said that "something big is going to happen at the 2K Games Booth this PAX".

The tease follows last month's rumours that Gearbox had taken over development of DNF. Boss Randy Pitchford reportedly intimated that something may be coming at PAX.

2K's PAX conference will be available via live stream at 6pm UK time through the link below.

Duke Nukem Forever has suffered a famously patchy history. Original developer 3D Realms shut down last year, after working on the game for over a decade.

Check out the latest gameplay video to emerge below. Bear in mind it's unofficial footage - allegedly taken from an ex-3D Realms employee's online portfolio.

Looks a bit ancient. We're very keen to see what Gearbox has done with the old girl.

The game might not have the best gameplay or graphics, but it has one thing better than both: Duke.

Is Duke Nukem Forever Going To Kick Ass At PAX?

Quote

Rumours abound that 3D Realms' Duke Nukem Forever will finally be revealed at PAX 2010 in Seattle for real this time, after the forever-delayed comeback for the flat-topped, cigar-chomping action hero got thrown a long overdue lifeline by Borderlands developer, Gearbox Software.

Gearbox studio lead and all-round nice guy, Randy Pitchford has neither confirmed nor denied the circulating rumours, though he did say that some information might be offered up at PAX this week.

Stir tweets from Nukem voice actor Jon St.John into the swirling rumour mill, and you have a heady brew of speculation that all points to the womanising Duke putting in an appearance.

St.Johntweeted earlier today that he "is headed for PAX Seattle tomorrow. See you at Q&A#1 in the main theater 11:30AM Friday...ask, I'll tell almost all!" He also tweeted last month that he "has no news yet about Duke Nukem Forever, so please don't ask me. As soon as I know anything, I'll be all over twitter with it. Promise!!!!!"

Stay tuned tomorrow then and keep your fingers crossed that Duke Nukem Forever will indeed be kicking ass and chewing bubble gum at this year's PAX. It could happen, people!

Duke Nukem Forever Officially Announced at PAX:

Quote

Gearbox Software's Twitter feed got the jump on the announcement that Duke Nukem Forever is finally coming, with a revelatory tweet confirming what we all expected: "ALL HAIL THE KING!! Duke is back! Come check us out at the 2K booth at PAX!"

Unbelievably, Duke Nukem Forever is actually playable at PAX, so the bottom line is that all the rumours were true and anyone waiting in line at 2K's booth will be getting hands-on time with the game.

If you watched the UStream feed earlier, you'll have seen Nukem dual-wielding two massive guns while taking on an enormous bi-pedal mech/monster/thing in the middle of a rainy American Football stadium during the hands-on demo that greeted PAX attendees patient enough to queue up for some long overdue time with the Duke.

So, the wait is almost over. Duke Nukem Forever is actually coming, courtesy of Gearbox Software.

Groovy! Duke Nukem Forever is coming in 2011. Honest.

Released on Machinima not long ago. If you've got a spare 30min or so, worth a look.

2K has tagged Duke Nukem Forever with a release date, and we must say, it's a bit of a surprise. Having finally revealed the game for real at PAX in September of last year, we were left wondering how long the wait would be to actually play the damn thing. But then after more than fifteen years of waiting, what's another few months, eh?

Game Informer has managed to get hold of the game's release date, which is actually now tantalisingly close. Here's Gearbox executive producer Randy Pitchford's response: "Somehow the guys at Game Informer magazine discovered Duke Nukem Forever's launch date before I did," he joked. That date?

Not sure if movie or game? But it's gonna sell sh** loads off hype alone.

Would laugh if it got refused classification in Aus.
