Gears of War 3

The 2012 Circuit - How It All Works

ACL tries to accommodate newer players/teams by providing a minimum number of games while remaining truly competitive in its structure. This ensures more social players get a good run in a competition without being 'knocked out' prematurely. This helps to encourage LAN attendance and growth in our community.

The 2012 Pro Circuit will involve:

  • Online competitions
  • Nationals Live Events

Seeding points are awarded to the top 16 placing teams in all categories. These points help to determine the ranking of players and teams. In some instances, teams with the most points will gain automatic entry to the next level of competition in reward for their previous results.

The structure for each competition differs slightly based on certain variables for online and Live Events. By and large, registration numbers effect how the tournament will be run.

Online - 4v4 Games

  • Pool Play
  • Double Bracket Elimination

Teams will enter into one round of pool play. Based on the win/loss ratio of teams, and tiebreakers where necessary, we will have seeded a 16 team double elimination bracket. From here, we commence the bracket phase of the competition until all but one team has been knocked out. Placement rounds help to decide 'tied ranks'.

National Live Events

National Live Events are run on a similar proviso as an online tournament, depending largely on attendance figures.

LESS THAN 16 TEAMS – No Segregation:

  • Pool Play
  • Double Bracket Elimination

16 TEAMS OR MORE – Open/Pro Segregation:

  • Open Pool Play
  • Pro Pool Play
  • Pro Double Bracket: 1st – 16th ranked teams

*Pool Play will ensure a minimum number of games will be played, but regretfully any team who does not qualify for the top 16 after pool play will not progress in the tournament.

Pool size and structure depends largely on attendance numbers.

Pro Status

In 2012, the status of who is a Pro Player or a Pro Team is based on the results at both National Live Events and Online Competitions.

A Pro Player has:

  • Placed Top 4 at a Nationals Live Event
  • Placed Top 2 in an Online Competition

A Semi Pro Player has:
  • Placed 5th - 8th at a Nationals Live Event
  • Placed 3rd - 6th in an Online Competition

There are TWO components to the points system, each with their own weighting. Here they are listed below:

  • Overall placing online - 40%
  • Overall placing at Nationals Live Event - 100%

So, teams ranked 1st - 24th will receive points, in any of these competitions. The points distribution table can be found above. We will present the data for awarded points in tables. Ie - Best Online points, Best ACL Regionals points, Best Overall Nationals Placing points. Of course, these will be added together to create TOTAL POINTS in our season ranking system, Stats Central.

Seedings & Finals Event

At this point of writing (January 2012) - we cannot confirm the structure of the Finals event other than this statement: Seeds 1-8 over the entire season are guaranteed a place and their seed in the Finals event.
