The 2012 Circuit - How It All Works
ACL tries to accommodate newer players/teams by providing a minimum number of games while remaining truly competitive in its structure. This ensures more social players get a good run in a competition without being 'knocked out' prematurely. This helps to encourage LAN attendance and growth in our community.
The 2012 Pro Circuit will involve:
- Online competitions
- Regional Live Events
- National Live Events
Seeding points help to determine the ranking of players and teams. A player ranked in the top 8 by points is classified PRO. In some instances, a PRO player will gain automatic entry to the next level of competition in reward for their previous results.
An OPEN player is deemed any player with or without seed points outside of the top 8.
While a ranking of SEMI-PRO applies to players ranked 9th - 16th, and AMATEUR applies to players with ranking 17th and higher, both of these groups are regarded as OPEN players.
The structure for each competition differs slightly based on certain variables for online and LAN events. By and large, registration numbers effect how the tournament will be run.
One Season - Four Leagues
The 2012 season runs from late 2011, until the NATIONAL FINALS live event in late 2012. The over arching season will be broken up into 4 parts of the year, called LEAGUES.
Each LEAGUE will consist of:
- 3 x Online Rounds
- 1 x Regional Live competition in each capital city
- 1 x National Live competition
Results in each Online Round and Regional competition will be assigned points. These points will accumulate to seed the top players for the National Live Event for that League. The National Live Event does not yield League Points, and all League Points reset at the end of each League.
The NATIONAL FINALS live event is the most prestigious event of the year with the most glory & prizes. This is NOT seeded by League 4 points, but seeded by the TOTAL of all League Points throughout the season, or Annual Points.
REGIONAL LIVE EVENTS - No Segregation
The SWISS system will be in effect for all Regional Live Events (Read up on Swiss Tournaments
). This structure ensures EVERY player who enters a minimum of 5 series of competitive play. These will be combined with any tiebreakers if required to finalise any placements.
ONLINE ROUNDS– Open/Pro Segregation:
- Open Group Play
- Pro Bracket Double Elimination
There will be 3 x Online Rounds per League. The highest seeded players based on League Points will be invited straight into the Pro Bracket Double Elimination. An Open based system will be played prior to the Pro Bracket commencement. The top players from the Open system will earn a spot in the the Pro Bracket. Differences in registration numbers will see varying structure changes take place for both elements of the competition. Each cap will be set prior to each individual tournament.
NATIONAL LIVE EVENTS – Open/Pro Segregation:
- Open Group Play
- Pro Bracket Double Elimination
As per above, the highest seeded players based on League Points will be invited straight into the Pro Bracket Double Elimination. An Open based system will be played prior to the Pro Bracket commencement. The top players from the Open system will earn a spot in the the Pro Bracket. Time, venue & equipment restrictions will see varying registration caps take place for both elements of the competition. Each cap will be set prior to each individual tournament.
Points - 1v1 Games
This graphs represents 100% points distribution.
There are THREE components to the points system, which are relevant to a time period. Here they are listed below:
Refers to the points accumulated between National events. Used to determine invites to each National event. This value is reset after each National event.
Refers to the points accumulated each year. Ultimately determines seeding at the National Finals event. This value is reset after the National Finala event.
Refers to total points accumulated throughout entire ACL career. Used to display overall rankings and establish veterans. Never resets.
- Online Round Placing - 40%
- Regionals Live Event Placing - 100%
This essentially means that if you compete in all THREE Online Rounds, you can achieve 120% of points. We place greater emphasis on live events, as everyone plays on the same connection and PCs, meaning more controllable variables. This means that your placing at ONE Regionals Live Event will warrant you 100% of points.
For example, if you place 1st in Online Round 1, 1st in Online Round 2, and 1st in Online Round 3 in League 1, you will receive 300 points for each 1st place finish, or a total of 900 points. The maths behind that is based on the table linked above. (40% of 750 points for 1st place = 300). If you place 1st at your local Regionals Live Event, you will take 750 points. These will then stack on top of each other to seed you for the Nationals Live Event. In this instance, you would have 1650 points, the maximum possible for the duration of a League, and will seed you 1st at the Nationals Live Event.
